Mercy Triumphs over Judgement

"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 8:37-39

We die to each other daily. What we know of other people is only our memory of the moments during which we knew them. And they have changed since then. To pretend that they and we are the same is a useful and convenient social convention which must sometimes be broken. We must also remember that at every meeting we are meeting a stranger.

My heart breaks
Skin crawls
There’s so much more to life than this.
There’s so much more
Than lying face first in the mud
Drowning in our addiction
Swallowing lungfulls of hopelessness
There is so much more
Than the fishhooks of despair
Yanking at our insides
Than the darkness and the rain.
There is reaching
And wings and flying
There are shoulders
To carry us when we are too weak
I want to scream about hope
And life and love
A love bug enough to hug a muddy addict.
